Our Story

The Girl Gang of America was born from a simple but widely shared problem: finding genuine friendships as an adult woman is hard.

In 2018, the idea began taking shape when a couple friends across Michigan recognized a gap no one was addressing. Dating apps were everywhere, but there was no space designed for women who simply wanted connection and friendship.

In late 2019, the Girl Gang officially launched through local online communities and quickly grew as women began meeting in person through member-hosted events. 

In July 2023, the organization formally became The Girl Gang of America, a registered nonprofit social club. 

While we do not charge membership dues, we fundraise to support operations and our annual Gangstaversary celebration, where chapters come together to celebrate connection, growth, and community impact.

What started small proved powerful. 

We found that there are thousands of women who were searching for the same thing: a welcoming, low-pressure way to form meaningful, platonic friendships.

Today, the Girl Gang of America continues to grow across Michigan and surrounding states, with new chapter requests coming in regularly. We are expanding intentionally, learning from experience, and focusing on building a strong, sustainable sisterhood nationwide.

The Girl Gang of America exists to help women build real-life friendships through local, member-led communities and events. 

Our chapters are open to adult women looking for meaningful, platonic friendships and community. 

We have a wide selection of member-led events of all kinds, from casual coffee meetups and dinners to weekend trips, cruises, and unique experiences. If it is something you would enjoy more with friends, it belongs with us.

The Girl Gang of America organization is led by President Cat Fosgate, alongside a dedicated board consisting of Peggy Taylor and Angie Guadagnini, and an incredible team of volunteer administrators who support each local chapter. Our leadership team and chapter administrators work together under shared guidelines to ensure consistency, safety, and a positive experience across all chapters.

Together, we are committed to protecting a safe, inclusive space where women from all walks of life can meet, connect, and form friendships that last.

Although Chapters are focused on a specific geographic area, many times members will visit other chapters or join their events.  

For example, the Jackson Michigan Chapter hosts tubing events, photoshoots, and parties regularly, in which surrounding chapters attend!  Here's a shot of last year's tubing trip!
